The Galaxie was the new top of the line series for 1959. The only difference in the Galaxie and the Fairlane 500 series was the styling of the top. Galaxies used the standard top with a Thunderbird style “C” pillar. These combos formed one of the best looking cars to ever come out of Dearborn. Dearborn also took its first steps toward extended service intervals and reduced maintenance costs, an area where it would continue to lead on into the sixties. This would involve standard aluminized mufflers said to last twice as long as previous types, full flow oil filters that lengthened oil change intervals from 1000 to 4000 miles and “diamond luster” enamel paint that wasn’t supposed to ever need waxing. All production figures written here are of V8 Galaxies only for Ford gives no production totals on 6 cylinder models or 6 cylinder wagon models. ( I don’t think many owners of 59’s in the club have 6 cylinder models so hopefully no one will get offended. Ford also gives no model numbers for V8 models. Only for the 6 which is A9 for 59. ) Here are the numbers for your records. Keep these handy for future reference.
