'63 Galaxie Engine Bay Detailing

Detailing and photographs by Martin Siemion, August 1992

This is a photo gallery collection of work done to detail a dilapidated engine bay and 352 FE in a 1963 Galaxie now owned by Martin Siemion. It is an effort to create a nice looking engine bay. It is not a restoration of the engine bay. A full restoration would require pulling everything out, disassembling the front clip, overhauling the engine and replacing all the belts, hoses, clamps, caps, plug wires, etc. with reproduction OEM type hardware. Still , this project did require a high level of detail to get to the final result pictured below. Eventually the radiator, expansion tank, water pump, hoses and fuel pump were also removed for detailing. The non-expert person taking a casual glance however would not notice much difference between the level of detail shown here and a complete restoration. It took about a month to complete in my spare time. Paint used for this project was PPG DP epoxy primer topcoated with Delstar acrylic enamel with flattener and DXR-80 urethane hardener catalyst added. Engine paints were Plasti-Kote high temperature engine paints - engine block black and valves covers/aircleaner old ford blue.
