Every so often a good idea comes along that is really helpful. As most of you know I have accumulated for the club 16 years of Galaxie repair manuals. I always suggest finding a repair manual and getting one for your car. Well, those of you that have a computer and a printer are in for a real time saving experience. Detroit Iron Information Systems now has available 1959-1974 shop manuals on CD. The CD’s come with a program to install them on your computer and once they are installed you just insert the CD anytime you wish to use it as your shop manual.
These are not just shop manuals either. They have on the title page of them a number of interesting items you can access. They have “Blast From The Past” which includes News headlines for the year car. For instance the 1964 issue has the date and what occurred on that date. It also has a section on sports and entertainment also!
They have a listing of car clubs, a parts and service provider list and a section called “In The Beginning” which lists production numbers as well as costs of options during the year listed.
The service center of the CD is broken down into 23 sections with subsections under each one. I was able to find the blow up picture for the
rear axle assembly for the 1964 in about 1 minute and print out the picture you see at the right on my printer.
