Subject: Engine swap from F.E. to LIMA 429/460
After removing your F.E.engine and transmission (332, 352, 390, 427, etc.) take the F.E.
motor mounts off and align the one hole in the mount with one of the three motor mount
holes in the 429/460 engine. The F.E. mount will be vertical (not horizontal) on the
engine.
The 429/460 has three mount holes.
After you locate the second hole in the block, mark the F.E. motor mount and use a 3/4
hole saw to drill through the rubber placing a pilot hole in the steel part of the mount.
Drill the hole to the correct size and bolt it to the block.
On the mount tower in your car, enlarge the top of the teardrop hole toward the top.
Your 429/460 will fit in the existing towers. Your original generator will mount on the
side of the 429/460 by simply altering one hole on the block mounting bracket.
Your original power steering pump will also fit on the 429/460 water pump in the
same location as on the F.E. but again you must alter one hole slightly and grind one
pedestal down on the water pump. You will see this when you line up your pump. I use
my stock two core radiator in the original location, but because the overflow and fill tank
mounts on the motor of the F.E., you will have to buy an in-line filler that goes in your
upper radiator hose. Your transmission mount has to be altered by moving it to the rear
about 4 inches depending on the transmission used. (use a C6 transmission from a
429/460) Use two pieces of 6 inch channel iron, mark your holes, and weld to the frame
to relocate the mount.
There are always some cosmetic alterations you will need to change such as
carburetor linkage, transmission linkage, etc, Come on guys-you have come this far...you
can get creative. You won’t believe the adrenaline rush when you drop the hammer on
this puppy! Instead of counting telephone poles to see if you are moving, you will think
those poles are a picket fence. Some 390/427’s can kick butt and those usually won’t get
converted. It’s the 332/352’s that need help and there is no excuse for cubic inches. My
son’s Nova has a 350 cu in 2 four barrels, roller cam, four speed , etc. and his license
plate says something like “when the green light pops, the bull $%#& stops.” Mine says
“cubic inches separate the men from the boys.” You know I can’t remember ever reading
that frame on my son’s car. I know one thing...My son just built himself a 63½ XL with a
429 cu.in. in it. I wonder if he got tired of reading mine?
