Billed this year as “Super Torque Ford” this year's Galaxie was heavily re-skinned to become fractionally longer and wider by 0.6 and 0.8 inches, respectively. Still intact were the basic body structure and 119 inch wheelbase perimeter chassis introduced back in ‘60, but the suspension was modified to put thunder velvet in the ‘63 Fords. All new ride curb weights were up slightly by 75 pounds on the two door hardtops. Ford defined “Total Performance” as the “the ability of the vehicle to fully accomplish its intended function.” The tremendous performance of the 427 Ford was vividly demonstrated in a road test of Holman & Moody prepared model conducted by Car Life Magazine. Although it was rated at 410 HP, the true output of the 427 was closer to 500 horses with a 3:50-1 axle. The Ford’s top speed was approximately 155 Miles Per Hour. Even with not much gearing the Ford was a strong sprinter. Reporting the following times- 0-30 in 2.3 seconds. 0-60 in 6.3 seconds. 1/4 mile in 14.2 seconds.
